The price for moving a piano varies depending on the type of piano, its dimensions, its value, the distance of the move, the access conditions (the number of floors, the shape of the stairs – if they are rotating, at 90 degrees , if there are bearings, etc.). We compare our services with those of a car repair garage, that is to say that you pay for the part to be replaced (for example $100) and for the replacement service (i.e. labor) , which you pay according to the hourly rate, so $100, $200, $300, etc. The location of the part will have a direct impact on the time required.
When it comes to free pianos or yard sales, we advise you to be very careful. It’s very rare that someone wants to get rid of a good piano without selling it. Either there are difficulties with its move and the owner knows it, or there are problems related to mechanics (the piano does not tune or it will be necessary to make major investments which are unnecessary to make compared to his value).
Yes! Déménagement Piano Transport is the company that takes care of your moving of an apartment, house, business, or safe transport . Be assured ! If we are able to handle pianos of 200-1200 lbs, we are able to move your stock safely!
To choose your piano transporter, ask the right questions: what is the level of experience of their movers? How long have they been shipping pianos? Do they have insurance? Moving a piano is a matter for professionals who have experience, specific techniques as well as the appropriate equipment and means. We strongly advise you to choose a company specializing in the transport of pianos and anything that is particularly bulky, fragile or heavy such as safes, dental chairs or marble slabs . Piano transporters use specific equipment designed to handle heavy and fragile loads: a hand truck, a trolley, protective covers, tie-down straps, wooden platforms (skid), trucks with tie bars solid and equipped with a temperature control system inside the housing.
Usually, movers are experienced people, in very good physical condition, who have worked in teams for many years. Having the right equipment is not enough; you have to study the piano transportation technique very well, because each one is unique. It is also necessary to anticipate delicate passages, measure carefully, identify, automate and bring together the strengths of each mover and make them work in harmony. The job of a well-trained piano mover is to apply 30% physical effort, 40% mental work, and 30% to properly use the specific equipment.
Legislation relating to the transport of goods requires transport companies to have insurance. So, all you have to do is check if the company is registered in the Quebec Business Register and with the Commission du transport du Québec.
What is the maximum amount for which you are insured? We currently offer two types of protection for your belongings:
1- Cargo Insurance, which is insurance protection for $25,000 on cargo;
2- Additional Insurance: Please speak to your sales representative if you are interested. All conditions are stipulated in the contract.
Déménagement Piano Transport has all the most modern equipment on the market and experienced movers to move your piano safely. We will not damage your furniture or your building. We’ll never push a piano across the floor, and we don’t use straps either: that’s a thing of the past! The movers’ backs were in too much pain. When regular movers are asked to transport a piano, 80% of them respond: ‘No thanks, it’s better to knock on the right door to avoid scratches and heartbreak and a broken back, or, “Sorry, we we do not move pianos. We have our backs and you have your piano! »
With us, the movers will be happy to move your piano. The training is carried out by the owner, who is a musician in addition to being an athlete. So movers learn how to deal with minor issues that arise during a piano move, such as adjusting the pedal board, in addition to knowing how to lift heavy objects with minimal effort and minimal impact on health. Piano transportation has come a long way and we don’t use this old technique. In Europe, equipment has progressed much more compared to Canada. They have equipment that goes from a simple wooden platform to a lifting and transporting machine called the Klavier-Roller . It is a unique concept in the world that lifts, loads, transports and protects the piano. Unfortunately, here, we cannot use it because of the Montreal architecture where we still find this long line of triplexes from the 1920s – 1940s and staircases of all shapes. We are not discouraged. On the other hand, thanks to our experience and different situations, we constantly add to our equipment by manufacturing tools ourselves to meet different requirements and, of course, to reduce the physical effort of our movers as much as possible. For the floor, we use neoprene protective mat and a hand truck with rubber casters. The piano is always mounted on a wooden platform to avoid direct contact between your floor or stairs and the piano. So, you never roll the piano on the floor, even if the piano or your floor is in very poor condition. For us, there is no piano in good condition or in bad condition: we give the same service, whether it is a new piano or a piano with scratches.
We do not ask to disassemble the piano into parts to reduce its weight. This is an operation that especially applies to old pianos (H=54-60 inches). Our company uses this technique when one of the following situations requires it: you have stairs with 90 degree turns and we can’t turn it because it’s too narrow, or when the piano hits the ceiling at because you renovated your basement or your hallway and lowered the ceiling, or because you changed the structure of your stairs. Above all, this is a rather risky operation since the mechanics of a piano is a fairly complex assembly. So, such a move will be carried out in 3 stages:
1) the dismantling of the piano, which will be carried out by a technician
2) the move, which will be carried out by our company
3) reassembly of the piano, which will be carried out by the technician.
Déménagement Piano Transport offers you the formula called “regrouping”. The moving of your piano will be grouped with one or more moves going in the same direction and the costs will be shared by several clients. The only disadvantage: moving in a group makes it difficult to choose the date you want, so you must be flexible.
If you need to replace any part of your piano, it is best to contact a professional technician. He will be able to assess the damage and make the necessary repairs or replacements. Additionally, it is also important to take preventative measures such as maintaining a suitable environment for your piano and implementing a regular maintenance schedule to minimize the risk of damage and costly repairs. With proper care, your piano can remain in good condition for years to come and bring you joy and music. Do not hesitate to contact a professional if you have any questions or concerns regarding the care of your piano.
